LARGE SCALE 1/16 WIRELINE TRUCK PROJECT:

I've been building mainly in 1/32 scale trucks, but recently got the opportunity to do something different. I was asked to build a replica of a wireline truck that was among the first of its kind. (In the oil and gas industry, the term wireline usually refers to a cabling technology used by operators of oil and gas wells to lower equipment or measurement devices into the well.) We were supplied with photos of a 70's era Chevy C50 wireline truck which gave us the color scheme, interior workings of the winch, control room, wireline boom and canvas roll tarp roof along with other important details. A 1/16 scale fire truck from Highway 61 replicas was very close a perfect donor truck.  The fire truck body's frame and mounting points  were kept along with some of the diamond plate running boards. The rest from the floor up was all scratchbuilt from styrene, metal tubing, other diecast parts, clear acetate....etc.

Here is the finished model:

1/25 Scale Truck Featured in Scale Auto Magazine

Along with building 1/25 scale trucks, we are also attending local model shows. NNL East is the biggest one in the country right now and is held every April in Wayne, NJ. We had several models on the tables in years past and a few of them were photographed by the magazines in attendance at the show....

This is the truck that was featured in Scale Auto Magazine and was built for our neighbor, Jim Beyer, who helped us personally with ALL of the mechanicals in our basement...water tank, hot water heater, furnace/boiler, etc.....We felt thanks were in order, so we built this truck for them....a near exact replica of the truck they drive every day.....with a Dodge Viper motor instead of the diesel powerplant it really comes with.....couldn't resist!.

NNL was a blast and is open to junior builders as well as adults...it is a non competitive event where models are chosen by popular vote....not by a panel of judges. Did I vote for my own truck?.....of course not!
